About us

Herd Life is located in the picturesque Kalamunda hills. We offer a safe inclusive, space where connection, respect, and wellbeing are nurtured through meaningful relationships with ourselves, horses and nature.

We honour the horses as sentient beings, not as tools and we share experiences that reflect this deep respect. Our sessions are non-ridden, and mostly at liberty, the horses choose to engage or not, with freedom, and authenticity. From this place of mutual trust, profound transformation becomes possible.

Blending mindfulness, creativity, gentle presence, and relational learning, we support emotional, mental, and personal growth in a  natural and genuine way. No pressure. No expectations. Just space to breathe, reflect, and reconnect.

We welcome people from all walks of life, and understand that everyone is unique and that every step in healing or change is different for everyone. Our commitment is to offer a compassionate, inclusive environment where people feel safe, and supported,  to explore their own path — their own way.

Herd life is more than a program. It’s a community guided by care, autonomy and connection — where horses and humans walk in freedom.

About The Herd

Our herd is a bonded, sentient community — not just a group of horses, but a family. They live together full-time, just as nature intended. Each member plays a role in creating a sense of belonging, safety, and harmony. For the past three years, they have lived as one, though the roots of their relationships go deeper. Raj and Maggie have shared life together for over six years, and their strong connection helped guide the smooth merging of the full herd three years ago.

In their world, communication is constant — even in stillness. Horses speak a language that goes far beyond words: a language of breath, subtle movement, presence, and awareness. Even while resting or snoozing, they are tuned into one another, feeling and sensing the emotional tone of the group — reading the room in a way we humans are only beginning to understand.

There is a natural rhythm and clear structure within the herd. Routines, shared spaces, and unwritten agreements shape their days. At the heart of it all is Raj — our gentle and wise leader. He is the undisputed head of the herd: discerning, calm, and deeply respected. He chooses the best places to stand, rest, graze, or shelter. He is often the first to approach anything unfamiliar, assessing its safety before the rest follow his lead. What Raj claims, the herd honours. His leadership is quiet, but absolute.

The trust and unity in this herd reflect something truly profound — the deep psychological, emotional, and physical support horses offer one another when allowed to live as they were meant to. They rely on each other for safety, comfort, regulation, and connection.

Being in their presence, observing their interactions, and caring for them is not just a joy — it is a privilege. They continue to teach us the importance of relationship, presence, and trust. Every day, they remind us of what it truly means to belong.
